THE OPPORTUNITY: Business Development Representative

The Business Development Representative works with new and existing customers to manage the business within their assigned account base. This involves the identification, qualification and pursuit of opportunities, including extensive sales call planning and participation. The BDR monitors the progress of their personal business development activity, sales funnel, and initiatives for assigned clients/targets toward the achievement of their quarterly and annual goals.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Actively developing new relationships (cold calling, web leads, trade show followups, etc.) as well as growing and strengthening existing relationships.
  • Gaining competitive advantage by effectively leveraging knowledge of industry space, competitors as well as existing customer base.
  • Effectively leveraging the benefits and accurate positioning of all products and services.
  • Learning and staying on top of current products and features for the purposes of providing on demand customer product demonstrations.
  • Engaging with the customer in a consultative role to efficiently and successfully move them through the sales process.
  • Efficiently and effectively engages appropriate internal resources to assist with the overall sales process as required.
  • Recognizing and alerting the appropriate personnel with regards to customer account issues/hurdles as well as providing recommendations for required corrective/strategic actions.
  • Being the champion of the account management process throughout the life of the customer.
  • Achieve/Surpass personal objectives for the year including new business, upgrades/value added and existing customer retention.
  • Tracking of all information pertaining to the customer and associated interactions within the company CRM system.
  • Increasing overall depth of product penetration within existing customer accountsr.
  • Ensuring retention of existing customers.
  • Developing an in-depth understanding of the market through industry analysis, reports, news groups, etc.
  • Assisting with the development of marketing materials for new products, trade shows, general announcements, etc.
  • Assisting/leading sales campaigns for key strategic initiatives.
The Skills & Behaviours:

The successful candidate will possess the following skills and behaviors

  • 4+ years of experience in business development and or sales account management.
  • Very strong networking capacity.
  • Ability to self motivate.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated skills to effectively manage client interactions utilizing probing skills, compelling presentation skills, and the ability to build strong professional relationships.
  • Experience developing business within a software firm: a definite asset.
  • Technical and/or sales designations: a definite asset.
